shipping your mic

It’s time to ship a mic to the mic shop. Ideally, it will arrive safe and sound despite your carrier’s best efforts.

Please read the guidance below about packing your microphone. It comes from lots of lessons learned the hard way.

Imagine that the package with your mic will fall to the ground from six feet (no need to test this but it very likely will happen).

Shock Absorption (aka reducing G-Forces)

When the package inevitably gets tossed around, the mic has a fair bit of momentum. The best we can hope for is to decelerate it as slowly as possible. This is a long winded way of saying – CUSHION THE MIC.

If you have the Manufacturer’s original packaging, please use it. If not, do your best. Cushioning matters. Pad it well to absorb the shock when the box comes to a sudden stop.

  • Bubble wrap – is good at taking up space, but it actually does not make a great cushion.
  • Foam – is great at cushioning. It’s why the make cushions out of foam after all.
  • No extra space in the box. Give it the shake test — nothing should move at all! Bubble wrap or crinkled up craft paper or newspaper is great at taking up space.
  • Big Bubble” Bubble wrap – seems like a great idea but if just a few of those big bubbles pop, you open up a lot of space in the box.

If we’re careful, the mic will arrive in perfectly fine shape – they usually do!

Okay then, here is where to send it
